History Colorado Center

Step into the story and discover Colorado at the History Colorado Center, where you'll find interactive exhibitions, programs for kids and adults, special events and cultural performances, and a research center that’s a portal to our vast collections of books, manuscripts, photography, documents, maps, and other artifacts. An award-winning tourist destination and a hub for learning and entertainment, it’s also a place to shop and dine. Buy regional foods and crafts, books on Colorado and Western history, and Colorado souvenirs at the Gift Shop, and enjoy a meal with a local emphasis at Café Rendezvous.

Denver CityPASS includes:

General Admission — Entry includes all permanent and temporary exhibits and the Makerspace for hands-on activities, the Stephen H. Hart Research Center, and the Center for Colorado Women’s History. (The traveling exhibition Freedom Plane National Tour: Documents That Forged a Nation requires a special timed-entry ticket available for free only on the Center's website.)

Highlights

  1. 01.

Explore 100 powerful artifacts that illustrate how Colorado became Colorado in Zoom In: The Centennial State in 100 Objects. Culled from the vast collections of History Colorado, every object on view had a role in shaping our state--from the age of the Paleoindians to Jack Swigert's Apollo 13 flight suit and beyond.

  2. 02.

Hear the story of Colorado’s longest continuous residents, told in their own voices in Written on the Land: Ute Voices, Ute History. Take a journey to iconic Colorado places the Ute people call home. You’ll see traditional arts, gorgeous photography, and contemporary video showing how Ute people have adapted and persevered through the centuries. Witness the tragic loss of Ute homelands and see efforts to keep Ute culture and language alive today.

  3. 03.

Explore the shifting geopolitical history of southern Colorado in Borderlands of Southern Colorado, presented in English and Spanish. This area framed by mountains and rivers is naturally conducive to unique and resilient forms of cultural connection. An international border crossed over the people in this region, changing their lives forever, when the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo moved a portion of the US–Mexico border from the Arkansas River—which flows through the middle of Colorado—down to the Rio Grande in 1848.

Advice for Visitors

Tips

Best Time to Visit

Afternoons are typically quieter than mornings.

To get the full experience, allow about two-and-a-half hours for your visit. If you're short on time, don't miss The Sand Creek Massacre exhibit or the Zoom In: The Centennial State in 100 Objects exhibit.

Be sure to check the center's website for upcoming deals, lectures or programs that may be included with the price of admission.

Learn more on the CityPASS Blog about what you'll see at History Colorado Center.

The Freedom Plane National Tour is taking flight to honor 250 years of American independence and will be at History Colorado Center May 28-June 14. Inspired by the Bicentennial Freedom Train in 1976, the National Archives and Records Administration and the National Archives Foundation are bringing America's founding documents around the country in a traveling exhibition. All visitors to History Colorado Center (one of only eight museums on the tour) must reserve a special timed-entry ticket for this free exhibition. Walk-up tickets will be unavailable, and CityPASS® tickets will not provide admission to this special experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value CityPass really saved us money on the attractions we wanted to see plus extra because of the savings. Easy to use and no hassles.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Educator Discounts? Please offer educator discounts. Yes, the pass is already discounted. However, as teachers, while we bring groups often to cultural outings, our incomes often are paltry at best. That said, we need to see cultural exhibits to connect them to curriculum and make them a worthwhile field trip for often 25+ students. Seems the ROI for free or discounted passes would be worth the initial lost revenue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good deal for week long denver tour. We got the 5 attractions city pass. We chose Day 1: zoo, Day 2: children's museum, aqarium Day 3: nature and science museum Day 4: colorado history center Children loved day 3 the most followed by day 2 (aquarium better than museum) followed by day 4 and finally day 1. Zoo was disliked because of the summer heat. You may want to pick and choose from other attractions (you pick 5 of 8) but these 5 seem the best for most kids ages 5 to 7. The pass is great value for money, more than 50% savings! Very good deal for a week long denver tour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value! I bought CityPASS tickets for my trip and it was a seamless experience. It definitely saves you money and is easily used for entry into the listed attractions. Specifically, I used my CityPASS tickets to enter the Denver Art Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and the Denver Botanic Garden. You do not need a reservation for any of these attractions. I just went to the front desk for all of these locations and they scanned us in.
